Hey guys! Let's just get this out of the way while we can:
HAPPY PUNDAY SUNDAY
In honor of Valentine's Day being yesterday, I feel like I should send you guys all a card to show how I feel about you. So in bulk, I present you another picture (and not another pun):
Happy Valentine's Day from Astronomy
Yep. You know that's awesome. It's a picture of the Heart Nebula, which lies some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. Sounds smart, right? Okay, so that sentence was totally copy and pasted from Wikipedia, but that doesn't mean it's not true (or amazing). It's amazing the kinds of things God has created to remind us we are loved. In honor of the fact that my relationship status remains entirely fictional, I'm going to post later this week about my favorite romances. For this post, however, I need to talk about the books I read last week. Most importantly, about The Ruby Circle.
If any of you has ever walked by the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead and thought to yourself, "Man, those things have horrible covers," then I would be right up there with you. The covers make them look like every other paranormal romance, and let's be honest, a picture of a girl with a "seductive" face (that looks more like she's just stepped on a painful thorn) has NOTHING to do with the book. I was a book snob for a long time, but I ended up reading every book in that series within two weeks (and I'm being really generous, because even though there were like 6 books, I think it was closer to one week). Then I moved on to the spin-off, the Bloodlines series.
The last book of that beautiful series came out last week, and it was so happy that I didn't know how to deal with myself. I literally put off the last thirty pages because I was expecting a horrible, destructive ending that would ruin my entire life. But I only managed to put it aside for about an hour and a half before I grabbed it and devoured the book whole. Now calm down, overzealous readers; I didn't actually eat it, because that would be homicide (and with the amount of literature in my blood, perhaps cannibalism).
The Ruby Circle started a month after Silver Shadows ended. At the end of the last book, Sydney and Adrian had gotten married despite the stigma from both their people, and everything was up in the air. Jill was missing, they were stuck at court, and a once-thought-dead adversary had popped up. At the beginning of the book, Mead jumps right in with action scenes, told in alternating chapters from both Adrian and Sydney. I'm not going to go all out and rant about the end, on the off chance some of you will change your minds and pick it up despite the cover and overabundance of vampires.
All I'm going to say is I LOVED THIS BOOK. I cuddled it, had an emotional breakdown, called my mother, ranted, and then tried to get it together for when my roommate came home. It was a really good ending, although I feel like there could have been more filler and less perfectly forward-moving plot. Usually, filler is something I'm ambivalent toward, but I didn't want this series to be over.
Read it. Or don't. Really, it's not for everyone, but I'm really glad my mom guilted me into reading them by buying me the entire first series at garage sales. She's wonderful.
Happy Post Valentine's Day.
Happy Punday Sunday.
Stay tuned later this week for my Post V-Day Romance List (and don't expect any John Green, Nicholas Sparks, or Sarah Dessen).
And remember, y'all are loved.
